If Mumbai had bought Hardik from his GT, he would have been left with only Rs 2.5 million for his 2023 IPL auction. However, RCB acquired Cameron Green from MI in an all-cash deal, giving Mumbai a cushion for the Hardik trade. Green’s transfer has significantly tightened Mumbai’s purse strings, with the franchise still holding on to a total of Rs 17.75 crore despite securing Hardik.
Mumbai Indians currently have 17 players in their squad, one less than the minimum limit set by the IPL, and can add up to eight players. Of the eight spots available, MI can sign up to two foreign players. It is worth mentioning that Hardik made his IPL debut with Mumbai Indians in 2015. Hardik played 92 matches for MI from 2015 to 2021, scoring 1,476 runs at an average of 27.33 and a strike rate of over 153, with a best of 91 quarter-centuries. He also became the team’s highest scorer with 42 wickets. His bowling score is 3/20.
