The Vegas Golden Knights mounted a comeback in the third period, but the Edmonton Oilers held strong and won 5–4 in a shootout on Tuesday night at Rogers Place. It’s the Oilers’ third straight victory.
Two assists and a goal came from Connor McDavid. In the past three games, he has scored 12 points.
Sam Gagner’s shot from the right wing boards slipped between Logan Thompson’s left arm and the goal post to give the Oilers the lone goal of the opening frame.
When Mark Stone deflected a point shot past Stuart Skinner at 1:11 of the second quarter, the score was tied. The rebound from Mattias Ekholm’s point shot went in off his body, putting Mattias Janmark and the Oilers ahead once again. But 43 seconds later, Michael Amadio was left alone in front to tie it.
During the four-on-four play between the teams, McDavid grabbed a loose puck in the neutral zone and attacked Logan Thompson by himself. Reaching the backhand, he scored his eighth of the year. Evander Kane made it 4-2 Edmonton with a power play rebound late in the second quarter.

In the third, Ben Hutton got Vegas to within one with 6:30 remaining. Keegan Kolesar scored a goal with 2:08 remaining to tie the score at four.
Evan Bouchard missed a two-on-one opportunity after a pass from Emmanuel McDavid in the final seconds of overtime.
In the shootout, McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the only goals.
Owing to illness, Zach Hyman was a late scratch. That meant adding Gagner to the lineup.
Thursday’s game in Winnipeg (630 CHED, Face-off Show at 4:30 p.m., game at 6 p.m.) features the Oilers, 8-12-1.
